Julia Donaldson is one of the most acclaimed children’s writers from the UK. But many people are shocked to hear that this very talented lady has been working in the entertainment industry since the 1970’s. Even as a young child, Julia Donaldson was creating all kinds of weird and wonderful characters. She is from a very large family and creating these characters was her own way of escaping to her own little world.

Writing songs, plays episodes of TV shows and pretty much anything that will pay saw, Julia Donaldson keep a steady flow of work during her early years in the entertainment industry. One of the most interesting facts about Julia Donaldson was how her and her husband would go all over busking! No matter what country they were in, she would come up with a fun song for that particular area. However it was not until the 1990’s that she shot to superstardom with her story, The Gruffalo. Her creation of The Gruffalo spawned from her trying to come up with ideas for a children’s educational series. She learned about an old Chinese story and that was what inspired her to create The Gruffalo.

After the success of The Gruffalo, Julia Donaldson did not stop and continued to produce incredible work such as, Room On The Broom, The Smartest Giant In Town and a follow up to The Gruffalo, The Gruffalo’s Child. She really is an inspirational figure and she was recognised for her great work when she was awarded an MBE from the Queen in 2011. She has also written books for older, teenage children, The Giants and the Joneses and Running on the Cracks which showcased what a talented writer she really is.

She continues to work to this day and some of her best work, most notably The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo’s Child have been give then TV treatment.
